Overview

For travelers with limited time who refuse to compromise on the Mara experience, this 2-day fly-in express safari is the perfect answer. You skip the seven-hour road transfer in each direction and gain those days back as bush time. The total time away from Nairobi is just 36 hours, but you fit in two full game drives, a luxury tented camp night, and three meals in the bush.

The flight from Wilson Airport in Nairobi to a Maasai Mara airstrip takes about 45 minutes in a 12-seater Cessna 208 Caravan, with spectacular Rift Valley views. Your guide and 4x4 collect you at the strip and the safari begins immediately on the way to camp. The next 24 hours are yours: long game drives at first light and again in the golden hour, lunch on the camp deck, sundowners on a granite kopje.

Ideal for honeymooners, business-trip extensions, expats and time-poor travelers. Customizable to a 3-day version with one extra full day in the Mara.

Day-by-day itinerary

  1. 1

Wilson Airport → Maasai Mara (luxury camp)

    Nairobi → Maasai Mara

Transfer to Wilson Airport in Nairobi for the morning scheduled flight to a Maasai Mara airstrip — typically a 45-minute hop in a 12-seater Cessna with spectacular views over the Rift Valley. Your Mara guide and 4x4 collect you at the airstrip and the game drive begins immediately on the way to camp. Check in at your tented camp for lunch, then a long afternoon game drive across the Mara plains — lion prides, cheetah families, leopard in the riverine forest and elephant herds at the river. Sundowners on a granite kopje as the savanna turns gold and rose. Dinner under canvas around the campfire and overnight in your luxurious tented suite, lulled to sleep by the distant whoop of hyena.

An early game drive at first light when the cats are most active — radio reports between guides mean you go straight to the best sightings of the morning, often a kill. Return to camp for breakfast, pack up, and a final game drive en route to the airstrip. Lunch at the camp or a picnic in the bush, then your scheduled flight back to Wilson Airport in Nairobi, arriving early afternoon. Transfer to your Nairobi hotel or directly to the international airport — total time away from Nairobi: 36 hours, with two full Mara game drives and a luxury bush night.
