Overview

Nairobi has more world-class cultural attractions than most travelers expect, and this full-day tour covers the three most beloved. The day is timed around the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust elephant orphanage, which is open to the public for one magical hour from 11am to 12pm — the rest of the day flows around it.

You start at Sheldrick at 11am to watch baby elephants rescued from poaching and human-wildlife conflict bottle-feed and play in the red mud, with the keepers explaining each calf's story. You then move next door to the AFEW Giraffe Centre for an eye-to-eye encounter with the endangered Rothschild's giraffe, hand-feeding them from the raised wooden viewing platform. After a long lunch at the famous Karen Blixen Coffee Garden, you spend the afternoon at the Karen Blixen Museum — the colonial farmhouse where the author of Out of Africa lived from 1917 to 1931, preserved exactly as in her time.

Optional last stop at Kazuri Beads cooperative or Bomas of Kenya cultural village. Drop-off at your hotel by 5pm.
