Best suited to private, family, mid-range travelers comfortable with a moderate itinerary over 12 days. Final timings, accommodation and activities are confirmed for the travel dates.

Overview

Twelve days is enough to give Uganda's main western parks distinct roles rather than treating them as a checklist. Murchison supplies the Nile and big savannah, Kibale the chimpanzee forest, Queen Elizabeth the channel and crater landscape, Bwindi the gorilla trek and Lake Mburo a compact final wildlife stop.

This is a private, tailor-made journey rather than a fixed-date promise. The quotation matches accommodation to the confirmed route, checks permit and activity availability, and keeps long road sectors realistic. Domestic flights can replace selected transfers when schedules, luggage and budget make that the better choice.

The safari suits travelers who value a varied landscape and an informed pace. Wildlife remains free-ranging, forest treks vary in duration and difficulty, and no individual sighting is guaranteed. Your guide adjusts each day's practical timing to current park, road and weather conditions without changing the core route.

Highlights

  • ✦Multiple Murchison sectors instead of a single rushed drive
  • ✦Kibale chimpanzee tracking
  • ✦Queen Elizabeth plains and Kazinga Channel
  • ✦Bwindi gorilla trek and Lake Mburo activity

Day-by-day itinerary

  1. 1

    Rhino sanctuary and Murchison

Entebbe → Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary → Murchison Falls

Travel north and, when confirmed, join sanctuary rangers for the designated rhino activity at Ziwa. The walk is governed by the sanctuary's current age, safety and operating rules, which are checked for the family before payment. Continue to Murchison Falls with comfort stops and enough time for children to settle before the main wildlife day.

Meals: L, D · Stay: Murchison Falls area family-friendly lodge

  2. 2

Savannah drive and Nile boat journey

    Murchison Falls National Park

Use the cool morning for a northern-bank game drive across palm-dotted savannah, where giraffe, elephant, buffalo, Uganda kob, hartebeest and lion may be encountered. In the afternoon, travel by boat along the Victoria Nile toward the base of Murchison Falls. Hippos, crocodiles, fish eagles and animals drinking at the bank often provide the day's closest observations.

Meals: B, L, D · Stay: Murchison Falls area lodge

  3. 3

    A second Murchison wildlife day

    Murchison Falls National Park

A second day avoids treating Murchison as a single-drive stop. Your guide selects a different circuit according to recent wildlife movement and road conditions. Where the itinerary and boat schedule allow, a delta journey can focus on papyrus edges and waterbirds, including the possibility of shoebill; no individual species is promised.

Meals: B, L, D · Stay: Murchison Falls area lodge

  4. 4

From the Nile to the crater-lake highlands

    Murchison Falls → Kibale region

Leave Murchison after breakfast for the long but varied journey south-west. The road passes rural trading centres, farms and the approaches to the Albertine Rift before reaching the greener Fort Portal and Kibale region. Stops are planned for lunch and comfort; no late forest activity is promised after a transfer of this length.

    Meals: B, L, D · Stay: Kibale / Fort Portal area lodge

  5. 5

    Chimpanzee tracking in Kibale

    Kibale National Park

Report to the designated visitor centre for the Uganda Wildlife Authority briefing, then enter Kibale with ranger-guides to look for a habituated chimpanzee community. Trek length, terrain and visibility vary with the animals' movement. The afternoon is kept lighter for a community wetland walk or lodge time only when separately confirmed, rather than attaching an unbooked activity to the package.

    Meals: B, L, D · Stay: Kibale / Fort Portal area lodge

  6. 6

    Crater country to Queen Elizabeth

Kibale region → Queen Elizabeth National Park

Leave the forest region after breakfast and travel south toward Queen Elizabeth National Park. The route can include crater-lake viewpoints when road and weather conditions suit. Enter the park with time for a short drive in the Kasenyi or Mweya area, saving the main wildlife circuit for the cooler hours of the next morning.

Meals: B, L, D · Stay: Queen Elizabeth area lodge

  7. 7

    Kasenyi plains and Kazinga Channel

    Queen Elizabeth National Park

Start on the Kasenyi plains while temperatures are cool, looking for Uganda kob, buffalo, elephant, warthog and the predators that use the open grassland. After lunch, join a scheduled boat journey on the Kazinga Channel, where hippos, crocodiles, waterbirds and animals approaching the banks can often be watched from low on the water. Sightings remain natural and cannot be guaranteed.

Meals: B, L, D · Stay: Queen Elizabeth area lodge

  8. 8

Ishasha sector and the road south

Queen Elizabeth National Park → Bwindi region

Drive through the Ishasha sector, using the morning light to scan fig trees and the surrounding grassland. The sector is known for tree-climbing lion behaviour, but the route is worthwhile for kob, buffalo, elephant and birdlife even when lions stay out of view. Continue toward Bwindi as the landscape tightens into steep farms, ridges and forest.

Meals: B, L, D · Stay: Bwindi sector lodge matched to the confirmed permit trailhead

  9. 9

    Mountain-gorilla trekking day

    Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After the official briefing, enter the forest with Uganda Wildlife Authority ranger-guides and trackers. The route can be steep, muddy and physically demanding, and the time needed depends on where the assigned group is moving. If the gorillas are located, conduct around them and viewing time follow current UWA rules. Encounters are highly valued but never described as guaranteed.

    Meals: B, L, D · Stay: Bwindi sector lodge

  10. 10

    From Bwindi to Lake Bunyonyi

    Bwindi region → Lake Bunyonyi

Leave the forested slopes for Lake Bunyonyi, a highland lake dotted with steep islands and terraced farms. The afternoon is intentionally unhurried. Canoeing, a guided community walk or a boat transfer can be arranged when the chosen property, weather and safety conditions support it; the quote states exactly what is included.

    Meals: B, L, D · Stay: Lake Bunyonyi lodge

  11. 11

    Highland lake to acacia country

Lake Bunyonyi → Lake Mburo National Park

Continue from the south-western highlands to Lake Mburo National Park. Its acacia woodland and open valleys contrast sharply with Bwindi. An afternoon drive can look for zebra, impala, eland, buffalo and giraffe, while keeping to the route and activity rules operating on the day.

Meals: B, L, D · Stay: Lake Mburo area lodge

  12. 12

    Return to Entebbe

    Safari region → Entebbe

Begin the return journey with stops agreed by the guide. The itinerary allows for normal traffic and road variation and does not pair a long overland transfer with an unrealistically early flight. When the international departure is too early, an Entebbe night is added to the quotation.

Meals: B, L · Stay: Departure or Entebbe hotel when quoted
